Microsoft Offers Up to 1TB Site Collections and Unlimited Tenant Storage in Office 365

In case you missed The SharePoint Conference 2014 in Vegas this month, or you live under a rock… in which case you may have missed the conference, because, you are living under a rock, Jeff Teper during his keynote announced that for Office 365 (Enterprise and Academic subscription plans only), can now support up to 1TB site collections, and, also have unlimited storage per tenant.

There was previously a limit on the storage space at 25 TB per tenant. This is no longer an issue if you are in one of the above plans. Per user, you receive the following for your tenant:

“Users get a default 25GB of OneDrive for Business storage, + 50GB of  email storage, + 5GB for each site mailbox you create, + your total available tenant storage, which for every Office 365 business customer starts at 10GB + 500MB  times the number of users”

You also now have the ability to purchase additional storage right through the UI as well from the SharePoint administration console:

Pretty cool Microsoft… I have had a few clients worry about “hitting the wall” of 25TB, this is now no longer a concern.

SharePoint Version Feature Comparisons

I wanted to share a link with my readers that shows a very comprehensive matrix of what features are available across different versions of SharePoint; SharePoint 2007, SharePoint 2010 (no FAST search), SharePoint 2013, and last but certainly not least, Office 365.

Richard Harbridge, a Partner Technology Strategist with Microsoft is responsible for this resource, which is a highly valuable one. Please go here to see the comparison chart.

If you are looking for the most up-to-date feature matrix for SharePoint Online across its different plans (as Office 365 changes frequently), can be found here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/sharepoint-online-service-description.aspx

What’s New in Office 365 for Business – January 2014

January brought a host of updates in Office 365. See the listing below for what is new and improved for Office 365 for Business! These updates are being rolled out in phases worldwide to all Office 365 for Business customers, so you may not see all of these updates as of yet.

Office

Microsoft teamed up with GW Micro to provide new functionality for those who are blind or have vision problems, so that subscribers of Office 2010 or Office 2013 can download a free copy of Windows-Eyes, GW Micro’s screen reading software.

Word Web App

A new function called Tell Me provides the ability combining search and natural language questions to help users find what they need to to and work faster and smarter. Footnotes and endnotes can also now be edited directly within the Word Web App. The ribbon has been updated as well to match the other Office Web Apps, and also allows easier sharing and renaming of documents.

OneNote Web App

The navigation pane has been updated to provide a better and easier way to navigate between sections and pages.

Lync Mobile

Lync Mobile for Windows Phones and iOS apps have been updated so users can now upload presentations during meetings so others can access the slide decks directly. Windows Phone users can now control the application using voice commands, making it almost hands free. iOS users also received a new interface update.

Outlook Web App

This has been updated with a new People View, which allows you to view messages quickly from people that matter, based on your most frequent contacts.

Partner Administration

Partners now have a central area to view all of their customers, view their service health, administer their tenants, manage support issues, as well as the ability to send trial and subscription offers to their customers, to help build business.

InfoPath and SharePoint Forms

InfoPath 2013 and InfoPath Forms Services will be the last versions of InfoPath, as it is phased out.

Office 365 + Outlook + My Site Social Connector – Hotfix Released 12/13/11!

One of the features I have grown to love in Outlook 2010 is the Social Connector – that window below your emails which you can enable to view aggregations of social network updates (My Site, Facebook, LinkedIn, to name a few) as well as past conversations, calendar items, attachments, and more.

image

Up until this month however, if you were a user of Microsoft Office 365, then you could not connect to your My Site hosted on SharePoint Online, you would get this lovely error after entering in all of the credential information:

Being a user of Office 365 – this was an issue for me, especially since I use the Social Connectors in Outlook daily.

I am pleased to announce, that as of December 13th, 2011,  that it has finally been fixed! You can download and install the hotfix from here (Outlook x64 only): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2597051/

Works perfectly now!
